How far can you push a bit before it become something more legit?

there’s the old saying that you should “commit to the bit” but sometimes I worry that “the bit” can be a bit consuming. it can be a bit, dare I say, ravenous.

sometimes I think it’s possible to over-commit to the bit, and in doing so, you lose who you are. I don’t think this is a good thing.

more and more lately I catch myself thinking “hey man, not everything has to be a joke. not everything has to be a silly moment. maybe things can just exist for what they are, and you can sit in silence and enjoy them.”

not really sure what to make of that past what it says at face value.
